The Ottawan

HELLO OTTAWA

Weekend plans

▪️If you’ve been invited to Thanksgiving dinner (lucky you) be a good guest and bring something fun for your host or hostess. Ridge Rock Brewing of Carp makes great beer of course, but they also have something for even the most dedicated non-beer fan. Their line up of 1L Cocktails + Spirits Crowlers are premixed cocktails in sealed cans, ready to be enjoyed at the party. Choose a Margarita or Caesar, or select a spirit and mixer and Ridge Rock will do the rest. You could also go for The Diefenbunker, a very October-ish blend of spiced rum, ginger beer, and Amber beer.

▪️If you’d rather enjoy the company of the people around the table than make a mess in the kitchen, consider Zola’s Thanksgiving At Home Kit. For $39 per person, you’ll get a starter, Caesar salad, butternut squash soup, your choice of a chicken, porchetta, or Atlantic salmon main, and a dessert (choose from pumpkin pie, GF chocolate mousse, and pecan pie). A seafood option is also available.

▪️A matching pair of a good quality oil and Balsamic vinegar is another great gift idea. The Aurelius Thanksgiving Bundle includes 200ml Tuscan Herb Fused Oil, 200ml Garlic Balsamic and 25g Tuscan Dip, all packaged in a lovely gift box. It's on sale for $39.10 until midnight on October 10th.

▪️Whether you’re hosting a crowd or just feeding the family, the you’ll need veggies. Head to one of Ottawa’s many farmers markets on Saturday or Sunday and pick up the freshest squashes, Brussels sprouts, and potatoes, but don’t forget you’ll also find baked pies and other desserts too as well as beverages. Dip into our The Ottawan Farmers’ Markets map to find your most convenient market.

▪️The Aberdeen Pavilion at Lansdowne will be humming tomorrow (Saturday October 9th) with the Thanksgiving edition of 613 Flea. You can expect over 100 vendors selling vintage clothing, vinyl, antiques and more. Expect foody treats too. 10:00am to 4:00pm, 1015 Bank Street. Free admittance.

▪️All turkey’d out? The Sawmill at Lansdowne is the latest haunted attraction by Saunders Farm, and promises thrills and spooky times both inside and outdoors. The adventure is set at a long-buried lumber site, where ghostly millworkers still reside. The event happens rain or shine, and there are no refunds. $30 + booking fee.

Deal of the day

Cheekbone Beauty’s full Sustain Lipgloss line is 25% off until Monday October 11th.
