HELLO OTTAWA Weekend Plans ▪️The Virtual Sugar Festival at Muséo Park Vanier Museopark runs April 1st through 9th. (It’s virtual this year in order to give the maple trees a break.) While there are family activities and downloads each day during the festival, grownups might be especially excited about the 2022 Soup(e) Splash competition, which pits participating restaurants against one another for the top prize in maple-based soups. The winning soup will be decided by the voters who purchase the $30 Soup(e) Splash kit, containing soup from each restaurant, bread, a voting card, and the list of ingredients. You have until April 2nd to order your soup kit, and you can pick up your kit between 10:00am and 1:00pm that same day. Sample each soup, and vote by 11:59pm on April 3rd. The winner will be announced on the final day of the festival. A portion of the proceeds of kit sales will go to Partage Vanier Foodbank ▪️Registration is now open for Spring Cleaning the Capital, running April 15th through May 31st across the city. ▪️613Flea returns to Lansdowne tomorrow (Saturday March 19th). From 10:00am to 4:00pm you can shop with over 120 vendors. Admission is free and masks are mandatory. Aberdeen Pavilion, Lansdowne Park.

COVID-19 NEWS ⭕ The National Advisory Committee on Immunization says children aged 6 to 11 years-old should take the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine over the newly approved Moderna. The committee says that as Moderna has a slightly higher risk for the heart in adults, caution is recommened. The committee also says Moderna is acceptable if Pfizer is not available. [CityNews] ⭕ The City will be removing all COVID-19 restrictions. As of April 4, vaccination will not be mandatory, allowing around 600 employees to return to work. Mandatory masking and physical distancing will also be over on Monday, in line with Provincial rules. [CTV] |

WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT ▪️Ottawa Police Officer who said ‘white man's day is done’ has been charged nearly three years later. The officer was unaware he was caught while on duty on a camera in 2019 when he complained about the white man's day and commented on how many mixed-race couples he saw in Toronto. He is being charged with discreditable conduct. [CBC] ▪️Larga Baffin tries again to build new residential care facility in Blossom Park. The organization had previously proposed the six-storey, 350-bed facility for Nunuvut residents referred to Ottawa for medical treatment but put it on hold after complaints from neighbours. [Ottawa Citizen] ▪️Is it Boundary Road, Ottawa or South Gower Boundary Road, Ottawa? When Ottawa expanded into the rural south, it ended up with two separate Boundary Roads, one for each previous municipality. One was supposed to be renamed South Gower Boundary Road, but delivery services, the fire department, and municipalities all have different ideas about what has changed.
