The CBC asked passengers who regularly fly to the far north what they bring with them: others said they brought albino corn snakes, one hundred Big Macs, and a live chicken.

    WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

    💥 Westboro Bus Crash

    • The Provincial public inquest into the Westboro bus crash began today. The panel, comprised of five civilians, is not seeking to assign guilt or impose penalties but to hear testimony from witnesses and make recommendations on how to prevent similar tragedies in the future. Three passengers died, 50 were injured, and tens of millions of dollars was paid out by the City in claims after an OC Transpo double decker bus hit the overhang of a Westboro transitway bus shelter in 2019.

The inquest can be streamed here.

    🎞️ ByTowne Cinema

    • The ByTowne Cinema wants your opinions on its membership programme and what films you would like to see. And don’t be one of those people who only suggest high-brow films because you think they should be shown yet you never ever go to one.

    🎓 Algonquin College

    • Algonquin College is cancelling its academic upgrading courses as part of its fight to fix an upcoming $93 million deficit. Academic upgrading courses are for students who wish to go on to college or university but don’t have the required credits. The College finds itself in a financial bind after the Federal government severely cut back visas for international students, a lucrative source of income for post secondary institutions across the country who charge premium prices to foreign learners.

    🏒 Canadian Tire Centre

    • The new name for the Canadian Tire Centre will be ... the Canadian Tire Centre. The naming rights deal for the Sens arena expires this year but the team has chosen to stick with Canadian Tire rather than put it up for auction. Worth an estimated $1.5 million to $2 million per year, the Kanata arena has been sponsored by Canadian Tire since 2013.

    DAILY POLL

    The Poll

Yesterday, we asked, ‘I remain an OTTAWAN subscriber because the newsletter ...’

62% Tells me what Ottawa is Talking About

32% Lists interesting things to do today, tomorrow, and the day after

2% Posts Deals of the Day on Canadian-made items and promotions from local businesses

0% Celebrates Ottawans of the Day

1% Publishes always-accurate and trusted sports scores

    3% Other

Nobody likes the Ottawan of the Day? The Ottawans of the Day usually like it, which is marvelous considering the cash award is $0. But we’re shook.

Using our 5th birthday as a launching pad, we’re planning to expand our merch store.  So today’s poll is about that:

    BUT, ONE MORE THING ...
