HELLO OTTAWA

It's Tuesday, so what better day to find a different job? Today is travel and hospitality jobs.

▪️ CAA is searching for a TCO-certified Travel Consultant to join the CAA North & East Ontario sales team on a full time basis. Duties will include promoting and selling CAA memberships, hotel and car reservations, and travel insurance. The post holder will also supply members with travel items such as passport photos. 

▪️ The Westin Hotel has an opening for a part-time Concierge, to anticipate and respond to guests’ requests, provide information, and communicate with other hotel departments as necessary. 

▪️ Holiday Inn & Suites Ottawa-Kanata is hiring a part time Guest Services Representative to, among other duties, welcome guests and assign their rooms, accommodate their special requests, and promote the hotel’s services.

▪️ The Guest Service Manager at Marriott Ottawa will supervise the activities on the main level floor and take ownership of the guests’ needs. The incumbent will manage arrival and departure processes and follow up on guest related issues.

⭕ Fully vaccinated Americans will be able to cross the border into Canada as of August 9. Unvaccinated Americans will still need to quarantine, children under 12 with fully vaccinated parents will not need to quarantine. [NBC]

⭕ Ontario’s COVID-19 Science Advisory Table has released a roadmap for a safe return to the classroom for kids in the autumn. The roadmap anticipates a school experience like it was before the pandemic. [Ottawa Citizen]

WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

▪️ Hydro Ottawa says scammers are contacting people and demanding payment over the phone or the power will be cut off. Hydro Ottawa says that it never demands immediate payment over the phone and people should just hang up. [Ottawa Citizen]

▪️Federal, provincial and city money has been announced to improve ByWard Market. $1.69 million will be spent to upgrade the building walls and windows of the market building. The money also includes a self-cleaning toilet, presumably available 24 hours per day. [Ottawa Citizen]

▪️That Barrhaven warehouse site has released a proposed design for the 40 acre site. The site woud include 500 parking spots for vehicles and 313 for tractor trailers, in addition to the 100 truck loading bays. The site would be in operation 24 hours a day and would see 400 truck trips a day. [Barrhaven Independent]

▪️The smog warning will continue throughout today. Wildfires in Northern Ontario have made the air in Ottawa hazy. [Ottawa Citizen]
