STATISTICS OTTAWA

NUMBER

  • – The amount of dog food donated by the Pet Valu company this month to wildlife rescue centres in Ottawa, Thunder Bay, Huntsville, Barrie, Kingston, Hamilton, and London.

  • These centres, which care for black bears, wolves, coyotes, possums, raccoons, and foxes amongst other woodland critters, do not receive any government funding.

  • Rachel Morgan at CityNews

CHELSOIS OF THE DAY

  • Xavier Drouin-Hill, Jad Maalouf, and Zacharie Drouin-Hill

  • The trio took home the top solo (Xavier) and duo (Maalouf and Zacharie) prizes at the first National Sauna Performance Championship in Whitby, representing Nordik Spa Village Chelsea.

  • "The trio won the what at the what for what?," we are sure that you are asking. An explanation is in order:

  • The sport is Aufguss, ‘a fully choreographed sensory experience combining scent, steam, heat, music, and storytelling to bring the traditional Aufguss ritual to life on a theatrical stage’. Here’s a video demonstation.

  • The three will represent Canada in September at the Aufguss World Master Championships in Verona, Italy.

  • Aufgusshow press release

WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

🔥 Hot hot heat.

🌊 The City has a handy list of all the pools, splash pads, and wading pools in Ottawa. Thoughtfully, there is also a list of the wading pools that allow dogs (at certain times).

🚊 The O Train is deliberately running slower today as temperatures over 30° can warp the track. – Josh Pringle at CTV

💨 The City has issued a fire ban, even for those with a permit. – City of Ottawa

📣 The City is fining the Escapade Music Festival $490 for excessive noise. The Festival was permitted to be loud yesterday between 1:00 pm until 10:30 pm but a sound check at 8:00 am was heard. Over Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, Bylaw services received dozens of complaints from the public regarding noise. Escapade showcases electronica music and was located on the RA Centre grounds. – William Eltherington and Joshua Marano at CTV

DAILY POLL

The Poll:

Last time, we asked ‘Should the Prime Minister move into Rideau Hall?’

24% Yes, that's an affordable and sensible suggestion

32% Yes, if not Rideau Hall in particular. There are five habitable official residences in the Capital. There is public housing for all our leaders.

17% No, Rideau Hall is part of our Royal Heritage

13% No, that just makes prime ministers feel presidential; they need their own appropriate lodging

12% These people are well paid, so let them find their own housing. There are many venues in Ottawa if a public event is needed.

1% Other

BUT, ONE MORE THING ...

For 13 Across, the hint was ‘Politician who lost to Fanjoy in the 2025 Canadian federal election’. The answer, of course, was the last name of the incumbent, ‘POILIEVRE’.

Rubbing it in was the hint for 20 Down, ‘Possible answer to “Did Pierre 13-Across retain his seat in the 2025 Canadian federal election?”’. The answer, also of course, was ‘NON’.
