– The number of times per month that Ottawa 911 receives emergency calls that it transfers to emergency services in other North American cities. Not only was this not possible before last November, but the Canadian Radio Telecommunications Commission has ordered it be implemented across Canada by March 4, 2024.

However, the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police have requested an extension to the deadline. Algonquin College professor Michael Wood, whose advocacy created the service, has filed an opposition against the extension.

▪️Parks Canada is limiting parking to only those with credit cards and smartphones. Five of the parking lots along the Rideau Canal are pay parking but the coin machines have been removed. The new credit card accepting machines will not accept debit cards.

▪️A two kilometre stretch of Manotick Main Street will be off limits to trucks June to February. Residents had been requesting that the trucks be barred for years, with the local residents association estimating that 800 trucks per day used the road. Local deliveries are still permitted.

▪️The City is running a series of drop-in events for anyone who uses, or knows someone who uses, Para Transpo. Staff will be on hand for people to ask questions and give feedback. At all events, staff are bringing the new 6-metre minibus to check out.

▪️Québec has sent more health care workers to help alleviate a shortage in the Outaouais. Ten in total. Seven were sent to a long-term care home east of Gatineau, two were sent to a long-term care home in Maniwaki. The tenth’s destination is to be determined.
