    WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

    🚊 OC Transpo

    •  OC Transpo is now accepting Visa, Mastercard, Google Pay, and Apple Pay. The system will not accept debit cards – although you can hook those up to Google and Apple pay – nor can it be used on anything other than a one-time trip for one person. American Express is not accepted either. Riders can create an account to view their trips but only after they have taken their first trip.

ParaTranspo riders have been able to use both credit and debit cards since April but OC Transpo chose to use a different system for the buses and O Train.  (CBC)

➕ Related Blackburn Hamlet will be the guinea pigs for OC Transpo’s first on-demand buses. The plan would see Route 28 closed on weekends but transit riders could use an app to book a mini-bus – seconded from ParaTranspo – which would make a special trip. ParaTranspo riders, who have been requesting on-demand rides for years, still must book at least 24 hours in advance.

➕ Related Ottawa Transit Riders is presenting a roundtable discussion on ParaTranspo issues at City Hall on Sept 25. ParaTranspo riders are invited to attend.

    🚆 VIA Rail

    •  VIA Rail is adding two more Ottawa-Toronto trips. Train #646 from Toronto to Ottawa will run once daily on Thursday, Friday, and Sunday starting Oct 26 and Train #644 will run once daily on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday starting Oct 27. Train #43 from Ottawa to Toronto will run on Monday, Friday, and Sunday, starting Oct. 27, while train #647 will run on Friday and Sunday. What time of day are all these trains? VIA Rail hasn’t said, despite that information being a lot more useful than the train number. (Josh Pringle at CTV)

    ⁉️ Uplands Wedding Shooting

    •  Over 50 bullets were shot at the wedding party in which two people were killed last Saturday. Police have released few details but the number of bullets suggest that more than one person was pulling the trigger. Police do not believe the two victims, and six other injured people, were the intended targets. (Joanne Laucius in the Ottawa Citizen)

    💰 Landsdowne 2.0

    •  A letter from eight Ottawa worthies has been sent to City Council asking for financial transparency in the Lansdowne 2.0 decision making. The letter asks questions that do not have answers like how ‘much more debt would the City be committed to if Lansdowne 2.0 proceeds’ and ‘How much, on a percentage basis, would surcharges add to the average ticket price for the Redblacks, Ottawa 67’s and other ticketed events’? (Bulldog Ottawa)

    🛻 Convoy on Trial

Convoy co-organizers Chris Barber and Tamara Lich are currently on trial for their parts in the Convoy siege. We’ll mention when something interesting happens.

    •  The Crown played TikTok videos of Barber telling truckers to ‘grab that horn switch’ and ‘let it roll as long as possible until they're busting your f--king windows down’ if police tried to roust them.
    •  The trial is scheduled for 16 days but is already two days behind schedule.

      (David Fraser at CBC)

    Just Announced / Now Booking

    DEALS OF THE DAY

Slipacoff’s Premium Meats offers free Ottawa shipping on orders over $250. Right now they’ve got deals on steak as well.

Classic nightshirts from 49th Apparel (made in Canada!) are 60% off, and when you spend at least $150 you won’t pay shipping.

The Hillside Sweater in Cardinal red is on sale at Blondie Apparel.

    BUT, ONE MORE THING ...

We would normally hold a restaurant related story until our Wednesday Food + Drink update but this maybe sold out by then.

Simons, possibly the only currently successful department store in Canada, has launched Bon appé-tee – new streetware shirts on their in-house DJAB label inspired by four Canadian restaurants: Hono Izakaya (Québec City), Aunty Lucy’s Burgers (Toronto), Pizza Coming Soon (Vancouver), and, since 1986 in Ottawa, Zak’s Diner. What a great idea.
