Ottawa real estate agents Labrosse Real Estate Group have run a study using their own sales combined with MLS data to find which areas have had the greatest and worst price gains in 2022. 

Most areas of Ottawa were near break even at -0.40%. As for the big jumps:

Manotick -4.60%

Stittsville +7.00%

Nepean & Kanata +7.90%

Ottawa Centertown +5.60%

Orléans +7.10%

    🥫 Emergency-ish

    • The City’s Emergency Preparedness and Protective Services committee has voted against making backup generators mandatory in rental buildings and condominiums. Ottawa West–Nepean MPP Chandra Pasma spoke to the committee, asking for its endorsement on her proposed provincial law. Pasma spoke of one wheelchair using Ottawa resident who could not leave her apartment for 10 days after the derecho because of the lack of elevators. Councillors Matthew Luloff, Allan Hubley, Laura Dudas, Clarke Kelly, Steve Desroches, and David Hill voted against the proposal. (Taylor Blewett in the Ottawa Citizen)

     

    🪅 Heritage Buildings

    Meanwhile, a developer wants to knock down this 1896 house at 41 Arlington Avenue in Centretown (PDF) ...  

    and replace it with the building below. 

    Says the Built Heritage Committee: ‘The new proposed three-storey eight-unit residential building supports intensification while maintaining a heritage feel in accordance with the Centretown Heritage Conservation District. Heritage staff believe the new building can successfully contribute to the district’s overall character.’

    You, dear reader, can see that this plain square building clearly has a frontpiece that is kind of like the outline of the old house that once stood there. Heritage!
