#WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT
▪️ Ottawa’s head of transportation is retiring. John Manconi has spent 32 years with the City, starting at age 22 inspecting drainage ditches in pre-amalgamted Nepean. He's retiring at age 54 in September as that is the first month that he can receive a full pension. [CBC]
▪️ The Alexandra Bridge Coalition has formed to save the Alexandra bridge from demolishing. Heritage, transportation, and environmental advocates say the 120 year-old bridge is an "magnificent architectural wonder" and should be transformed into a cycle and pedestrian connection between Ottawa and Gatineau. [CBC] [The Coalition]
▪️ The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation says that housing starts in Ottawa and Gatineau will not repeat 2020 record numbers. This is partially, they argue, because everyone who could buy a house and wanted to buy a house did so and the pent-up demand is gone. [Ottawa Business Journal]
▪️ Justin Bieber announces a tour stop in Ottawa March 28, 2022. Good for Beliebers but it's also the first big concert announcement that assumes 2022 will be safe enough to have people indoors screaming by the thousands. [Faces Mag]
