The Poll

Yesterday, we asked ‘Does the change to Daylight Savings Time affect you?’

22% Yes, positively
42%  Yes, negatively
36%  No, nothing worthy of mention
1% I always keep my clocks a half-hour ahead, Newfoundland-style

Well, it looks like we should change to permanent Daylight Savings Time. Nothing will happen.

Today’s question (What Ottawa is Taking About down below has the background):

We welcome any comments ‘hello@theottawan.com’

    WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

    ⚖️ Social Media

    • A court has denied an application by Meta, Snapchat and TikTok to dismiss a lawsuit by Ottawa school boards.  The Ottawa Carleton District School Board and the Ottawa Catholic School Board are part of a group of Ontario school boards suing the social media companies, accusing them of disrupting kids education and well being. The dismissal clears the way to trial.

      The Canadian Press

    ⚖️ Convoy Class Action

    •  A court has also denied an application by ‘Freedom Convoy’ defendants to toss out a proposed class action lawsuit by residents and businesses. The Convoy defendants argued that the siege of downtown Ottawa in 2022 was in the public interest. The proposers of the class action, which has not yet been approved, are asking for $290 million for personal suffering and business losses.

      The Canadian Press

    ⚖️ Cold Case

    • The suspect accused of murdering a man on the Portage Bridge in 1996 has been released on a $2 million surety.  The now 73 year-old is living in West Vancouver, must wear a GPS monitor, and cannot go more than 100 metres from his home except for legal visits. Two unnamed people are his surety, guaranteeing that he will obey his bail conditions. Lawrence Diehl was free for 28 years until new DNA testing led to his arrest last year. Ottawa Police believe that Diehl had no previous connection to the murdered man.

Gary Dimmock in the Ottawa Citizen

    ⚽  Ottawa Rapid FC

    • Six more people have joined the ownership group for Ottawa Rapid FC,  the professional women’s soccer team which will launch in the Northern Super League next month. Investing are Ottawa Senators minority owners Seth Boro and Jen Hamilton, Heidi Bloomfield (Rapid chief sport officer), and local business people David Renfroe, Chris Riddoch, and Kyle Braatz.
