WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

📋 The  Treasury Board has not ruled out a full return to office for Federal public employees. At this time, the three-days-in-office (four days for executives) policy continues but when asked if it could change, a Board spokesman did not give a yes or no.  – Matteo Cimellaro in the Ottawa Citizen

🚨 An Ottawa Police Service constable who assaulted a handcuffed boy at CHEO has been demoted. Omair Khan pleaded guilty to discreditable conduct for assaulting the boy after he had brought him to CHEO under the Mental Health Act. The demotion is from 1st Class to 2nd Class Constable for 16 months. – Gary Dimmock in the Ottawa Citizen

🎧 The latest Municipal Panel podcast from The 613 has dropped. Neil Saravanamuttoo, Joanne Chianello, and Jon Willing discuss the new Transportation Master Plan, how the City tried to hide lowering urban boundary fees, and the new provincial act to oust misbehaving councillors. – The 613

🛒 Every week, @stromanker reads all the grocery store flyers and posts the deals on Ottawa Reddit. This week, he calls out cauliflower $1.99/ea (FreshCo), ground beef $4.48/lb (Food Basics), and pork loin $1.99/lb (Metro Cite des Jeunes). – /Ottawa

❓ Everyone wants to know what you think this week.

• The City is renovating William Street and ByWard Market square. It would like your opinion on what it is doing.

• For those of you who are proud of how walkable your neighbourhood is, Walkable Ottawa wants to know the details.

• In a change of pace, the Ottawa Board of Trade, Ottawa Tourism, and Invest Ottawa are looking for your support for Lansdowne 2.0. You can sign the open letter here.

THE DAILY POLL

Do you think Federal public employees should return to the office full time?

Yes (I am not a Federal public employee)

Yes (I am a Federal public employee)

No (I am not a Federal public employee)

No (I am a Federal public employee)

  • Previously in ottawan polls:

  • We asked, ‘Should OC Transpo run trams over the many abandoned rail lines around Ottawa?’

    • 73% Yes, they already go past where people live

    • 12% No, that is just added expense to a burdened OC Transpo

    • 15% They should see if private industry wants to run one

  • Commentary

  • ▪️ “Some tracks are already used so infrequently (1-2 trains a week), why not have trains run from communities around the city, like a smaller scale GO Train”

  • ▪️ “One of the reasons Toronto’s transit is as good as it is, is because they refused to abandon streetcars. If there are already tracks, why not use them?”

  • ▪️ “This should have been thought of before the useless LRT.”

BUT, ONE MORE THING ...

  • Ottawa Roadtrips proprietor Laura Byrne Paquet has a photo-filled story of the SS Keewatin, the world’s largest surviving Edwardian passenger liner which is now permanently  docked in Kingston.

  • We generally consider Kingston as outside the ottawan’s parish but we like old ships and this 1907 liner, built for the Canadian Pacific, looks like a great excuse for a road trip, so we’re making an exception this time. – Laura Byrne Paquet in Perceptive Travel
