Food + Drink Update

▪️The Stolen Goods Cocktail Bar has opened on Spark Street, and both the Citizenand Apt 613 are agog over the cocktail innovation.

▪️The King Eddy has opened a new pizza joint in their former space, Lil Z’s, and the Citizen says it is a worthy addition to the top tier pie space occupied by Heartbreakers and Farinella.

▪️Ottawa magazine wants you to get back to the land and eat at Boreal Farm in Low, Juniper Farm in Wakefield, and Back Forty Artisan Cheese in Mississippi Station.

▪️There is a new weekend-only restaurant in Renfrew, Indian Curry PotThe chef/owner holds down a full time job in IT but opens his restaurant weekends to bring Indian cuisine to the area.

▪️It's Free French Fry day and you can get free chips at New York Fries, Wendy’s, and MacDonalds but, honestly, you can't throw a Yukon Gold without hitting a chip stand in Ottawa. Eat locally and pay the pittance.

▪️Today’s special at Atomic Rooster is 2 for 1 Burger & Fries. DJ Andrew will be spinning tunes from 10:00pm to 2:00am. 303 Bank Street.

▪️Luxe Blooms, Ottawa’s first flower cafe has opened on Dalhousie, combining floral arrangements with coffee, pastries, and even cocktails. Now, that’s a collab. 254 Dalhousie St.

▪️Job alert: Tell your hospitality friends that Metcalfe Hotel and its restaurant Cocotte Bistro are holding a job fair July 15th (3:00pm to 7:00pm) and July 16th (10:00am to 2:00pm), to hire all positions for the grand reopening in August. This won’t be your typical resume drop off, though; there will be tunes from a live DJ, gift bags, and mocktails. 123 Metcalfe Street.

WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

▪️Eleven cases of Monkeypox have been identified in Ottawa. 124 cases have been identified in Toronto. Across the province, only 9 people have needed to be hospitalized. Ottawa Public Health is offering vaccinations at its sexual health clinic and at Centretown Community Health Centre. [Ottawa Citizen] [Who needs to get a vaccine]

+ Related Ontario will allow fourth dose of COVID-19 vaccine to everyone over 18 years of age starting tomorrow. You must have had your previous vaccination more than five months ago. You can book a vaccine through the Ontario Portal – remember that? 

▪️The City’s Integrity Commissioner has signed a five year contract. Karen Shepherd was hired on a one-year contract last autumn, but is now set to stay until 2027. The Integrity Commissioner is an arms-length office that advises, educates, and judges codes of conduct for City Councillors and members of City boards and agencies. [CityNews]

▪️Ottawa RedBlacks quarterback Jeremiah Masoli thinks that punishment meted out to the Saskatchewan player who injured him was a slap on the wrist. Masoli will be recuperating for 10 to 12 weeks, while the Roughriders’ Garrett Marino received only a three game suspension. [Faces Magazine]
