▪️Merry Dairy wrote a book! Great Scoops: Recipes from a Neighbourhood Ice Cream Shop will be available for preorder in December, and in our hands in May 2022. Meanwhile, to get your hands on some fresh Merry Dairy ice cream today, head to the postal code pop ups in K2H (George Brancato Park), K2L (Beaton Park) and K2K (Walden Park). We want salted caramel topping on ours!

▪️Grace in the Kitchen is moving to larger premises at Kanata Centrum in November. The kitchen and dining supply store carries pretty much every knife and gadget you need for a hard working kitchen, as well as lovely table linens and other gift ideas. They also carry food items imported from the UK, which is important news for those who favour a dark chocolate HobNob or three with their cup o’ tea. The new shop opens in November, but in the meantime you can shop online and at the current location 442 Hazeldean Rd.

▪️Beyond the Pale brewery is the setting for the Brewery Comedy Nights on Thursday August 26th. Mike Rita and Nick Burden will burn up the stage while you enjoy cold beer and a hearty smoked meat menu. For your chance to win one of three two packs of tickets, head to Brewery Comedy Nights’ Insta.

⭕ Ottawa Public Health has is now running four neighbourhood vaccine hubs, open to anyone 12 year-old and older for first and second dose. No registration necssary. Check for nearest location here. [City of Ottawa]

⭕ Canada is definitely in the COVID-19 fourth wave, says the scientific director of Ontario's COVID-19 Science Advisory Table. [CBC]

⭕ Gatineau businesses want Ontarians in the new Quebec vaccine passport. Quebec starts its passport system September 1, limiting non-essential businesses to fully vaccinated people only. [CBC]

WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

▪️The City is looking for a ‘substantial’ deduction from the company that operates the Confederation Line. The pays a monthly maintenance payment to Rideau Transit Maintenance but as the line has been shut since the weekend after a derailment of an out-of-service carriage, the City wants a discount. The Federal Transportation Safety Board has also announced that they will be investigating the issue. [Ottawa Citizen

▪️Kanata North councillor Jenna Sudds says that she will take a leave of absence if a federal election is called. Sudds, who is the nominee for the Kanata-Carleton riding, says that she will not take her City salary either. A Federal election is rumoured to be imminent but is not scheduled until October 2023. [Ottawa Citizen]

▪️ Murderous bus driver lovers found guilty. The two OC Transpo drivers murdered one of the pair's wife in 2014 as she recovered from surgery, not expecting her to fight back. The duo have received life sentences. [Ottawa Citizen]
