    WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

☢️ If you would like to take your career to much, much lower levels, the Diefenbunker is seeking a new executive director. The no-longer secret cold war bunker for Canadian officials in the event of a nuclear war was converted to a museum years ago. The offered salary of $100,000 to $125,000 should pay for a reasonable amount of Seasonal Affective Disorder therapy. – Charity Village (Hat tip West Carleton Online)

🍷 A report from City staff to be presented at the May 27 Community Services Committee recommends allowing alcohol to be consumed at some City parks. The parks would be designated in consulation with the ward councillor but beaches, sports fields, and playground areas are right out. Both the Ottawa Police Service and Ottawa Public Health oppose the idea. – Josh Pringle at CTV

🐕 Ottawa Police Service have welcomed a new member to the Service, K9 Nelson. There is a picture of the two-year-old black Labrador, of course.  – Ottawa Police Service

🚊 Ontario laid out its budget yesterday – and it included only a promise to study taking over the O Train. During the provincial election, Premier Doug Ford campaigned on having the Crown corporation Metrolinx take over the O Train, possibly freeing up $4 billion for the City to spend and potentially providing better management. The budget included no promises to do either. – Josh Pringle at CTV

↪ An itinerant music teacher says that she may need to drop her students after OC Transpo has cancelled some routes. Music teacher Saira Lyons says that she has been forced to use Uber to complete her journey to Manotick from Bank Street. After the changes to routes, OC Transpo no longer has service in the late morning or early afternoon in her area. – Peter Szperling at CTV

    DAILY POLL

    The Poll

Last time, we asked ‘Is an increase of $6.08 per month a fair rate for City-owned utility Hydro Ottawa to charge?’

    27% Yes

    48% No

17% Why $6? Why not $60? Or 60¢? There seems to be no rhyme or reason for choosing that amount

    7% I'm outside Hydro Ottawa’s service area

1% I'm off the grid completely
