WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT |

🚍 OC Transpo |
▪️Most of the electric buses expected for this autumn have been pushed back to next year. OC Transpo had ordered 22 buses but builder New Flyer is advising that it will be late delivering 16 of them. The Agency has also decided to cancel all 60 foot-long electric buses, and only run the 40 foot-long ones. | | Ted Raymond at CTV |

💨 Idlers |
▪️The City has updated the idling bylaw. The new bylaw allows motorists to idle their vehicle for up to three minutes when the temperature is between 0° and 27° and a limit of 10 minutes when the temperature is colder than 0° and warmer than 27°. The current law sets a three minute limit only when the temperature is between 5° and 27°. The new law comes into effect January 2025. The fine for violating it is $500. | | Blair Crawford in the Ottawa Citizen |

🖋️ Naming Things |
▪️Nominations are now being accepted under the City’s new Commemorative Naming Programme. The updated programme covers everything from trees and benches to parks and bridges. The new rules are:
• Applications will be reviewed bi-annually in the spring and fall, streamlining the process for applicants. • A new Commemorative Naming Working Group will review and prioritize applications with diverse perspectives to ensure fair evaluation. • Names related to Indigenous communities will be Indigenous-led and reviewed by the Anishinabe Algonquin Consultative Circle. • The updated policy focuses on improving representation for underrepresented groups, aiming to reflect the diversity of Ottawa’s population by correcting past imbalances in commemoration practices.
Nominations can be made here.
