The Poll

Yesterday, we asked ‘Do you agree that Ottawa’s school boards should be suing Meta, Tik Tok, and Snapchat?’

60% Yes, social media is harming our children
21%  No, social media is not doing anything one could win a lawsuit over
9%  Can we still sue MuchMusic? Those guys robbed me of a lot of study time back in the day
9% OMG OTTAWAN. A MuchMusic joke? What are you, a thousand years old?

Those memories of MuchMusic inspired today’s question:

We welcome any comments ‘hello@theottawan.com’

Otherwise, happy International Art and Found Day.

    WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

    ⛺ Newcomer Reception Centres

    • The City is cancelling plans for sprung structures as demand for newcomer centres falls.  A report to City Council says that the need for spaces to house asylum seekers has lessoned and can be accomodated in existing shelters. The tent-like structures were planned to built at Nepean Sportsplex and, if needed, Kanata.

    ✈️  Stephenville

    • The town of Stephenville, Newfoundland is losing faith that local empty space encloser Dymond will keep their airport running. Sure, the connection to Ottawa is tenuous, but Dymond, operator of all those storage centres, is as iconic a local company  as it comes. In 2023, Dymond bought the airport in Stephenville, promising, in Carl Dymond’s own words, to ‘put bums in seats’. But now, the airport has been downgraded to ‘aerodrome’ by Transport Canada.
