HELLO OTTAWA

Wednesday Food + Drink

And so September is here, and it’s time to say goodbye to the hot, humid days of summer.

▪️On the plus side, the fine people of Moulins La Fayette Hintonburg have announced their upcoming seasonal apple pastries and breads. Apple Strudel? Yes, please. Raisin Apple Brioche Bread? Absolutely. And of course, bring on the apple pie.

▪️Today is the final Parkdale Night Market of 2021, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. It’s your last opportunity to shop from local farmers, growers, and makers in an evening setting. Check our farmers market map for details.

▪️Deacons Pub has released details of their next whisky tasting. For $65 per person, enjoy eight 1/2oz drams of curated whiskies with cheese pairings. What a lovely way to spend a late Sunday afternoon. RSVP for the event on Sunday September 5 at 4:00pm: info@deaconbrodies.ca

▪️The Buyers and Cellars location at 327 Somerset St. W is open seven days a week from 3:00pm to 7:00pm for wine tastings and sales. Tastings can be arranged for groups of one to four people, or more by special request. If you need a wine-inspired gift the website sells bottles of fine wine, books, and house-made charcuterie accompaniments. Book a tasting by emailing TastingRoomOtt@buyersandcellars.ca

▪️We love that Marin Urban Beer Garden was closed yesterday for the staff beach volleyball party. Sounds like these people know how to have fun. The beer garden is back open today, which is great, because it’s a very pleasant 23 degrees outside and the sun is shining. These are perfect conditions for sipping local craft beer. 345 Preston St.

▪️Heating Up The Capital, Ottawa's first hot sauce festival, will be launched this Saturday in, checking a map, Mountain. (That's near Kempville.) The CBC looksat Meow! That's Hot, Mama Lalo, Mazépis, and Haico's.

▪️Laheeb Shawarma and Laheeb Grill say that those other Ottawa shawarma joints are Americanized – they, however – make the real thing.

▪️Beau’s Brewing Co. has made a deal to be the exclusive beer served on Porter Airlines

We'll see you tomorrow – Martha and Darren
