This may be a Mini-ottawan but it is our final email to you of 2023. (If you want to dwell in the past, you can view the archive here.)

We’ll be back with you on Tuesday, and we hope that you’ll continue with us in 2024.

    OTTAWA STATS

      Number

      • 77
      • – The age of a repeat drunk driver arrested in Gatineau, who had been banned after over 20 impaired driving convictions. He probably would have continued getting away with it except for the fact that he did not have a license plate on his car. Gatineau police say he was not intoxicated in this instance. (William Eltherington at CTV)

      Ottawan of the Day

      • Kevin O’Donnell
      • –  The political data expert has relaunched his OttWatch.ca website. This amazing site taps into the City’s vast amount of public data and shows such things who has signed up as a lobbyist, what 311 phone calls have been received, meeting agendas, and so much more. Click around! (OttWatch)

      • We understand the excitement around celebrating New Year’s Eve

      • – Roger Chapman, director of Ottawa’s by-law and regulatory services, who warns that setting off fireworks for New Year’s could result in a $265 fine, including a victim surcharge. Fireworks are only allowed for the three consecutive days of June 30, July 1, and July 2.  (Mike Lacasse at CityNews

      WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

      ⛑️ Rideau River

      •  Two have died after four teenagers fell through the ice on the Rideau River Wednesday night. The two boys were students at John McCrae High School. A 15-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy managed to pull themselves from the water and were treated for hypothemia. (Charlie Senack in the Manotick Messenger)

      🏒 Women’s Professional Hockey League

      •  The CBC will be streaming four Women’s Professional Hockey League matches in the new year. Really, we think that this is a streaming schedule of the Toronto and Montréal teams but it just happens that they play Ottawa periodically. We’ll take what we can get but the first match next Tuesday will not be broadcast. (Andrea Yu in CBC)

      THE OTTAWAN T-SHIRT

Wear the only be-logo-ed t-shirt authorized by the ottawan itself.
