WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

▪️A 25 year-old football player with the University of Ottawa Gee Gees has died. Mechanical engineering student Francis Perron was a defensive lineman for the team, and died after a game Saturday against Toronto. There is no word yet on the cause. [CBC]

▪️A Confederation Line O-train derailed yesterday, closing the line. The derailment, near Trembley station, did not cause any injuries to the passengers but the train itself was significantly damaged. Initial reports says that this derailment was for a completely different reason than last month's derailment. [Ottawa Citizen]

▪️Ford Motors is building a large distribution centre in Casselman. The new facility, which replaces one in Toronto, will service both Ontario and Quebec car dealers with replacement parts. Around 150 new jobs are expected to be created. [The Review]

▪️The Ottawa Showbox website is closing down. Launched in 2012 to cover Ottawa's music scene, the site's founders no longer have the time or energy to keep on and look forward to the next generation of cultural writers to take up the cause. The gig booking part of Showbox will continue.[Ottawa Showbox]

▪️Proof that Rick Chiarelli has a heart, as the city councillor has been sent back to hospital for complications. Chiarelli had open-heart quadruple bypass surgery in December 2019. [Ottawa Citizen]

LIVE HERE

Some families need more than three bedrooms. Maybe you want a work from home space, or you have more than two kids. This week we’re checking out some of the four bedroom properties that have come on the market since the weekend.

69 Dalehurst Drive, Tanglewood (Nepean)

4 bed, 2 bath

Year built: unspecified

The lack of a garage and the skinny galley kitchen might be two reasons for the lower listing price, but this house has plenty to offer otherwise. The large backyard includes a deck with hot tub, and there’s a main floor family room in addition to a fully finished basement rec room.

619 Gaines Drive, Beacon Hill North

4 bed, 3 bath

Year built: 1971

In our opinion the show stopping feature of this mostly updated house is the 70s era basement rec room. It has a groovy wet bar for the grownups and a linoleum-looking floor where, on snowy days when everyone’s stir crazy, littles could tear around on foot or even ride tricycles.

$747,000

31 Birchview Road, Ryan Farm (Nepean)

4 bed, 2 bath

Year built: 1971

The Brady Bunch-era exterior leads to a light filled, fully renovated kitchen with butcher block countertops, as well as several spaces where family and friends may gather. The backyard has room for running around and a good sized deck to enjoy in the warm weather.

$850,000

Realtor.ca

38 Kimberwick Crescent, Quinterra (Hunt Club)

4 bed, 4 bath

Year built: 1998

A grand family home with many recent upgrades, this house has access to the Rideau River and the conservation area. The vaulted ceilings, open concept main level layout, and chef’s kitchen tick all the major boxes.

$1,595,000
