🚊 NO Train: Day 4️⃣

Here are today’s updates on the closure of the Confederation Line.

  •  Updates on a return to service are not expected until Monday. (Blair Crawford in the Ottawa Citizen)
  •  Mayor Mark Sutclilffe won’t speculate a date on when the Confederation Line will reënter service. (Josh Pringle at CTV)
  •  As of today, 24 of the 45 carriages have been inspected. None have failed inspection. (CBC
  •  The R1 replacement buses will now travel down Albert and Slater streets instead of Queen Street due to problems with traffic congestion. (CBC)
  •  The Transportation Safety Board says OC Transpo has been  making only short term fixes and the agency needs to find a solution. (Sarah Kester at CBC)
  •  More than 200 bus trips from around the city have been cancelled during the first two days to provide enough rail replacement buses (Josh Pringle at CTV)
  •  Ottawa Bulldog asks if there are indeed hundreds of bad axles at the Belfast Yards maintenance facility. The City’s response is not a denial. (Ottawa Bulldog)

    🏛️ Commemorations

    •  A winning design for the Afghanistan Mission memorial has been chosen by the Federal government. The design by visual artist Adrian Stimson, landscape architects MBTW Group, and public art coordinators LeuWebb Projects will be constructed opposite the Canadian War Museum.     ✝️ Parish News

    •  A Kanata Catholic priest has been removed from office after he barred the Archbishop from entry last April. That’s burying the lead a bit. The priest at Saint Isidore Parish was involved with a parishoner and had moved out and let other people live in the rectory, and the Bereavement Authority of Ontario is auditing the church cemetery.  (Andrew Duffy in the Ottawa Citizen)

    •  The Goulbourn Museum is seeking heritage enthusiasts to volunteer on its board of directorsThere are three vacancies – elections will take place at the Annual General Meeting of the Museum at 6:00 pm on August 10, via Zoom.     With the Oppenheimer film on people’s lips, the NY Times has taken a look backwards  at the fallout from the July 16, 1945 Trinity test in New Mexico. Turns out Ottawa was probably in the fallout zone. (The accompanying video does not actually follow the fallout beyond the US border, so it could be argued the radioactive cloud did not have the necessary visa at that time)
