[Ottawa Citizen] Quote: ‘You’re telling me that the RCMP, the OPP, the municipal police, nobody could do anything because you couldn’t find tow trucks? I’m worried because I hope there is never any war in Ottawa because that won’t be funny. Was that really the problem, they couldn’t find tow trucks?’ – A frustrated Bloc MP Rhéal Fortin questioning RCMP Commissioner Brenda Lucki at the joint Parliamentary commission scrutinizing the Emergency Act. WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT ▪️The City will spend $112 million to widen Strandherd Drive in Barrhaven. Why? Because car traffic is slow. Is there bus service in the area? No. Why not? Because there is no money. Ottawa planners know all about induced demand – when you widen a road, only to have it fill up again with traffic – but they continue to pretend that they don't know about it. [Ottawa Citizen] ▪️If you ever had dreams of being a firefighter, the Ottawa Fire Department is recruiting volunteers. You must be at least 18 years-old, and live near a rural fire station. Those stations are located in: Cumberland, Vars, Navan, Osgoode, Metcalfe, Greely, Manotick, Richmond, North Gower, Dunrobin, Kinburn, Fitzroy Harbour, Constance Bay, Carp, and Goulburn. Binge-watching every episode of Chicago Fire is not a requirement. [City of Ottawa] ▪️Ottawa falls off the top ten venture capital cities. Last year, Ottawa just squeaked onto the top 10 list with $9 million in venture capital investments, compared to number one Toronto's $2.2 billion. This year, the bottom of the list was Quebéc City at $9 million, Ottawa was somewhere below that. [Ottawa Business Journal] |
