Here is today’s update on the closure of the Confederation Line.
🛻 Convoy Opinions Wanted
the ottawan often makes fun of how the ease of responding when the City asks for public comments depends a lot on how far a decision has already been made.
If the City really wants the public’s opinion, there are such things as publicized meetings, an info web page, and online surveys. When public opinion is an annoyance, an email address to a City manager suffices.
The Province is somewhere in-between.
The Provincial government has looked to the Emergencies Act inquiry to improve on the failures from the Convoy siege.
And now the Ministry of the Solicitor General has posted draft regulations and is looking for input from the public.
For example, one major proposal is to have the Ontario Provincial Police as central for communication and coördination between local police and the Mounties rather than leave the various police forces to fend for themselves.
Pros: It’s a webpage, and the public can answer with an online form. Cons: The details are all in a PDF and there is no explanation of what is going on or being changed. Nor do they seem to be publicizing this very well amongst the citizens of the City who experienced the siege.
Read and respond to the draft proposal here.
