Weekend plans: get organized for Thanksgiving Summer’s now a fond memory and It’s time to start planning for Thanksgiving. Since it feels like the holiday lands in our lap with no warning, this year we're taking the final weekend of September to get ready in plenty of time. Of course, if we don't feel like cooking, Ottawa's restaurants and caterers can help. ▪️Baccanalle’s Thanksgiving Dinner has heat and serve dinners comprised of your choice of single, four, or eight servings of either Jerk-spice or Apple-spice roasted Turkey. Sides range from curried pumpkin soup to Caribbean-style Mac & Cheese to their in-house cornbread stuffing, and dinner’s rounded out with Chocolate Marble Sweet Potato Cheesecake. Orders close October 3rd. ▪️If you’re based in Chelsea, Restaurant Les Fougères is offering a three course Turkey dinner on Saturday October 9th with classic dishes like Dauphinoises potatoes, gravy, and cranberry sauce, and for dessert their Pumpkin Tartlet with Chantilly Cream sounds divine. $49 per person with the option to add bottles of wine to your order. Pickup only. ▪️Thyme and Again has a range of Thanksgiving packages and individual dishes so you can create your perfect festive dinner. Meal packages can feature turkey ($145 for the bird plus gravy, stuffing and cranberry or $220 for a fun feast for six to eight). If turkey isn't your thing, they also offer Baked Side of Salmon or Prime Rib. Their selelction of sides is full of standouts like Potato & Leek Gratin, Braised Brussels Sprouts with Bacon, Chestnuts and Pomegranate Seeds, and Mashed Sweet Potato with Harissa ($28 each). The desserts look lush too. Orders close Friday October 1st or sooner if they sell out. Table setting ideas Expect over 90 vendors at the 613 Flea taking place at Lansdowne Park on Saturday (September 25th) from 10:00am to 4:00pm. WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT ▪️The Rainbow Bisto has been given a temporary lifeline by local business people. The network has agreed to cover the shortfalls to keep the doors open at least until the end of 2021. [CBC] ▪️City Council voted against discussing issues with the O-Train at its meeting yesterday. Councillors Jeff Leiper and Shawn Menard (not Shawn Mendes! Not Shawn Mendes!) needed 18 votes to have the issue added to the agenda but only wrangled 16. Mayor Jim Watson was one of the members against discussing the O-Train’s problems. [Ottawa Citizen] ▪️Ottawa Police will submit a budget that has no increase. The police say that they will submit a budget that is the same as the previous year but assume that there is zero per cent inflation. If costs do rise, they figure, it's out of their hands.
