Rural Ottawa, the City would like to hear from you.

Rural Ottawa is Orléans East-Cumberland ward, West Carleton-March ward, Orléans South-Navan ward, Osgoode ward, andRideau-Jock ward.

Sure, the City doesn’t provide water or sewer or electricity or even run many buses there but City Hall still cares and has set up several workshops between now and June 1 to hear from residents.

There is also a survey, which asks for opinions on such things as ‘The residents in my rural community are aware and educated on common outdoor activities such as hunting and fishing’ and ‘Rural areas should be the primary location for wind turbines, waste management, solar farms and battery storage’.

🛷 Mooney's Bay Park

•  City Staff want $250,000 for an engineering report to make tobogganing safe at Mooney's Bay Park. After a sledding girl was killed hitting a pole in 2021, the City has discouraged tobogganing in the park with signs and fences. (William Eltherington at CTV)

🌊 Westboro Beach

•  The National Capital Commission has good news and bad news about its Westboro Beach renovations. The good news is that a small section of the beach will be open. The bad news is that renovations will not be complete by this summer, there will be no water contaminant testing, and no lifeguards will be on duty. (National Capital Commission Twitter)

• On Monday April 22, join Ecology Ottawa at the Mayfair Theatre for a captivating Earth Day film screening of The Condor & The Eagle, a powerful documentary that takes viewers on a journey across the Americas, exploring the interconnected struggles of Indigenous communities fighting to protect their land, culture, and the environment against the destructive forces of fossil fuel industries. The event is free or by donation. All proceeds going to local environmental action through our high-impact grassroots organization.

• Ottawa Vegan Drinks is a monthly social event where you can make new vegan friends at a local, vegan-friendly establishment. In April, join us at Ottawa's plant-based bar and restaurant, St. Elsewhere. Thursday April 25 at 826 Somerset Ave. West.
