WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

▪️Para Transpo has finally created an improved online service for riders to book and cancel trips. The new version works like you'd expect – like Uber – and treats Para Transpo riders as customers, unlike the previous system which seemed to treat riders as patients who need a service of last-resort. [City of Ottawa] [Para Transpo New App]

+ Related City Staff has been asked by council to explore free transit fares, or at least reduce them

▪️City Council has agreed to form an Anishinabe Algonquin Nation Consultative Culture Circle with representatives of the 11 federally recognized Anishinabe Algonquin First Nations. The Circle will meet twice per year to allow the City and its various departments to ask and respond to questions. The Circle is planned to be in operation this year. [City of Ottawa] [Nominations]

▪️Nominations have opened for the Bruce Timmermans cycling awards. The awards recognize those who have contributed to cycling in Ottawa, both as individuals and as organizations. Deadline is April 30. [City of Ottawa] [Nominations]

▪️Trucker siege co-organizer had his bail hearing suspended after his lawyer's computer was hacked. During the virtual hearing, a voice was heard from Pat King's lawyer David Goodman’s computer speakers, saying that the computer was locked. Computer files were later found to be undamaged and the hearing will continue. [Ottawa Citizen]
