COVID-19 NEWS

⭕ Vaccinated people who have COVID-19 symptoms need only self-isolate for five days, instead of ten. That is, of course, assuming symptoms improve – if they continue or worsen, it's still ten days. Unvaccinated people must self-isolate the full 10 days still, as do health care workers. (Health care workers can cut it to seven with negative tests) [CBC]

⭕ Gatineau is locking up again. Quebec has banned indoor dining, limited household gatherings to one bubble, and instituted a curfew between 10 pm and 5 am. Non-essential retail businesses are also to be closed Sundays. [CBC]

⭕ Two more OC Transpo drivers have tested positive for COVID-19. [Ottawa Citizen]

WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

▪️National Capital Freenet is proposing citywide free wifi. The Internet pioneers have created Digital Equity Ottawa, a group that will sponsor putting wifi in buildings across the City, linked together in a technology called Mesh. [Capital Current]

▪️Red Cart books in Cornwall has a problem – they have 250,000 books that they need to put somewhere. The tiny book shop has been receiving around 2,000 books per week donated by thrift stores, which have now taken over a barn and farm house. Any ideas? Send them to info@redcartbooks.com. [Ottawa Citizen] [Red Cart Books]

▪️Your annual reminder: stay off the Rideau Canal ice until it's officially open. The National Capital Commission says that the ice is dangerously thin – even if you can see workers on the ice. [Ottawa Citizen]
