Ramadan Mubarak, to those who are observing their fifth day of fasting. Every evening, the fast is broken by Iftar, the evening meal. Reader Nazia wrote to us asking for Ottawa restaurants that are staying open late for fast breakers. Great question. But we didn't know the answer. So Nazia went and did the work for us. She has found: “Sa’ hara on Montreal Road (they were advertising platters for the family), Phynicia advertising Suhoor (pre-dawn meal), and the Rhoda Foundation in Orleans participating in Community Iftar from Thursday to Saturday.” “However I am still a bit new to Ottawa so not sure if there is a central place to look for more events/restaurants”. Please help Nazia and us out: where are the best Iftar dining bets. Email to us at hello@theottawan. – Martha and Darren The Ottawa Citizen has a few to add: 3Cents Resto & Cafe on Bank Street, Sub Town on Walkley Road, Ariana in Lowertown, Juice Dudez in Westboro, and Zaytoun Pizza, also on Walkley Road. |

If you believe that this has been a warm winter, this should seal it for you: the Quyon Ferry between Fitzroy Harbour and Quyon, Québec has opened for the year. Usually, the river is frozen at this time of year. The 15 minute, $10 ferry ride is always fun but news that Gavin’s Pub in Quyon has reopened makes the trip an imperative. |
