    ✈️ Ottawa International Airport

    •  Ottawa is belatedly getting streamlined security, at least part time. NEXUS and Global Entry members, Canadian and US military, Canadian police, aircrew and airport staff will clear security without removing shoes or laptops during peak hours. Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto, and Montreal have the same service but 24 hours per day.  (CBC

    • A gigantic dead crow made of rubber tires is the latest public art in the city. Located on the pathway near the Pimisi LRT station, When the Rubber Meets the Road was created by Prince Edward Island sculptor Gerald Beaulieu. (Blair Crawford in the Ottawa Citizen)

    🗳️ Kanata - Carleton Riding

    • Residents in Kanata-Carleton will be voting for a new Member of Provincial Parliament next month. Merrilee Fullerton, who was also Minister of Children, Community and Social Services, resigned in March for undisclosed reasons. Election day will be July 27. (Ted Raymond at CTV)

    •  Ottawa Senators head coach DJ Smith and his staff will keep their jobs for the next season. General manager Pierre Dorion was told by new Senators owner Michael Andlauer that staffing is Dorion's call. (The Canadian Press)

    🔭  Jim Watson

    •  The former mayor, Jim Watson, has surfaced with a board appointment to the Ottawa Community Housing Foundation. Watson, who did not re-run in the most recent election, has kept a low profile since he was excoriated in the Provincial Inquiry on the building of the O Train.     •  It’s Sketchy Thursday at Ottawa Art Gallery. Bring a small object to sketch in a realistic style. Free. 6:30pm to 8:00pm at 50 Mackenzie King Bridge
    •  Next week, Australia marks National Aboriginals and Islanders Day and today the Australian High Commission in Ottawa is observing the occasion with a film screening. The Sapphires (2012) follows a group of Aboriginal singers as they travel to Vietnam in 1968 to entertain troops. SAW Gallery, 67 Nicholas St. A cocktail reception will follow the screening.
    •  Overflow Brewing hosts the Art Battle Ottawa Regional Championship 2023. Watch as the artists compete through three timed rounds (two at 20 minutes, and a final 30 minute round), in the hopes of being selected to head to the Canadian National Championships in July. All of the artwork will be available at a silent auction. 2477 Kalador Ave.

    •  83 To Infinity: 40 Years of Hip Hop in the Ottawa-Gatineau Region opens at Ottawa Art Gallery on Saturday July 8 with a free public reception followed by the after party hosted by Cranium. Tickets are required for the after party, which will run until 1:00am. 50 Mackenzie King Bridge.
    • If like us you didn’t know that Indigienous Canadian author and playwright Tomson Highway is also a pianist and composer, you have a chance to see him in action with Music and Beyond on July 6. Concerto in Cree Major: An Evening with Tomson Highway will combine classical and jazz music with readings from Highway’s canon.
    • OrKidstra is hopping on the bus for a series of performances around town on Friday July 7. OrKidstra’s free Wheels on the Bus tour will see 30 of the young musicians play at three stops: 1430 Heron Road, Minto Park, and 815 St. Laurent Blvd.
