Craft Beer Update

The warm weather has disappeared again but our region’s craft breweries are preparing for its return with summer-worthy new releases.

Broadhead’s Cucumber Gose is dominated by cucumber aromas and flavours, but these are rounded out with malts, grassy hops, and a lemony sourness. Imagine kicking back in the sunshine with a can of this in your hand.
Beau’s Raspberry Lime Refresher is a not-too-sweet radler that’s bound to quench any summer thirst.
Tropical citrus is the name of the game with Bicycle Craft Brewery’s Patio Sunshine APA.
Spark’s new summer release is a nod to the 1984 adventure flick The Adventures of Buckaroo Bonzai in the 8th Dimension. Not only was Paul Weller otherworldly handsome in this movie, but his affable, multitalented, world-saving hero had a catchphrase that was both reassuring and obvious. No Matter Where You Go, There You Are is a radler-style beer with lemon flavours and it's an easy drinking 3%.
We’re excited to see that Watermelon Islands Gose is back at Calabogie Brewing.
Arnprior’s Cold Bear Brew Co, Mallard’s Milk Bar, and Hedgerow Orchard have collaborated on the new release Seabuckthorn Sour.

🐻 Centrepointe Bear

A bear wandering around the Centrepointe area was tranquilized and relocated. National Capital Commission wildlife staff was called by Ottawa ByLaw after the animal was seen at 5:40am this morning. Wildlife staff were able to safely turn over the bear to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, which posted a picture of the frolicking ursine earlier today. Ottawa Police, Ottawa ByLaw, and National Capital Commission staff were all upset over their previous lack of coöperation when a bear in Kanata was shot by police. (CTV)

♿ Wheelchair Basketball

Carlton University is playing host to Wheelchair Basketball Canada’s first Ottawa Invitational Tournament. The tournament, which starts today and ends Sunday, features the top wheelchair basketball athletes from Canada, the Netherlands and the United States. Tickets are free. (Shaun Vardon at CTV)

🚌 OC Transpo

Seven people were injured after a bus crashed into a ditch on Highway 174 today. The bendy bus had 30 people on board when it veered off near Montreal Road and Jeanne d'Arc Boulevard. The injuries are believed to be minor. (CBC)

🪧 Revenue Canada Employees

Over 1,700 workers on contract with Revenue Canada are seeing their employment end early. Most of the employees work in call centres. Employees who are let go before the new contract is signed will not receive the bonus $2,500 lump sum. (Catherine Morrison in the Ottawa Citizen)
