HELLO OTTAWA

Power returned to the ottawan on Friday, after 48 hours of living on sandwiches and foraging trips to fast food Kanata.

The two ottawan cats, however, were quite content to have everyone napping in the same room, fireplace roaring, where the occupants could be watched.

At this time, there are thousands of people in the Outaouais who still are without power, almost a week later. Hydro Québec says everyone will be reconnected within 24 hours.

    🏅 Heritage Designations

    • As we’re mentioned before, the Province has introduced use-it-or-lose it heritage designations. If cities don't designate heritage buildings by Jan 1, 2025, they will be unable to protect any more until 2030. So the Built Heritage Committee has been racing through the contenders.

Iona Mansions, 1123-1131 Wellington Street West

This 1912 building was constructed by Colonel Donald H. MacLean. Until 1919, the ground floor contained the Ottawa Public Library.

The committee has recommended that City Council designate it as heritage.

    • The Hintonburg Pumphouse ruin, 5 Onigam Street

The Pumphouse has already been designated as heritage but the Committee received an update on what to do about this 1924 Pumphouse which was nearly destroyed by fire in 1989.

Consultants report that it will cost $2.6 million to bring it back up to a standard that can be used by the public.
