WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

♨️ Aylmer

  •  After 10 days, the boil water advisory in Alymer has been lifted. Analyses by the City of Gatineau found the water tested positive for E.coli bacteria starting August 1. Residents should run their taps for a full minute to clear out old water and, if for some reason you made ice out of unboiled E. Coli water, toss it out. (Isabel Harder at CBC)

💰 Mayor Mark Sutcliffe

🏊‍♂️ Autumn Recreation

  • Registration for autumn recreation programmes begins at 9:00 pm tomorrow for swimming and 9:00 pm Thursday for all other activities. The whole process is less fraught if you sign up for an account early – like today – and add in your credit card. (Activity Search)

🍺 Ottawa – Gatineau Craft Brewery Map

  • We have a new addition to our Ottawa – Gatineau Craft Brewery Map. The CWG Barnside Brewery opened two months ago just down the road from Vankleek Hill, in St-Eugène. Barnside specializes in growing the hops itself for brewing in its beer. Worth a road trip, certainly. (CWG Barnside on the Craft Brewery Map)

🛻 Convoy News

  • Convoy coörganizer Pat King is again out on bail, this time for breaching his previous bail conditions. As King could not afford to pay his legal representation for his previous mischief and intimidation charges, a judge permitted King to solicit for funds online. However, the Crown argued that he used his online platform to comment on media coverage and comment on the judge and prosecutors. In addition to a ban on any online communication other than fundraising, King had to foreit a $25,000 bond. (David Fraser at CBC)

  • LA Pai Gallery’s current exhibition Heirlooms presents the work of two artists with ancestral links to the Cornwall area. While Stephanie Hill’s art is inspired by the work of early botanists to catalog and illustrate Canadian wild flowers, it’s so much more than a collection of botanical drawings. Hill’s ink and watercolour images trace early settlers’ and farmers’ lives, interspersed with myths and personal stories. Artist Erin Robertson uses painting and sculpture to depict the pain and loss experienced by her ancestors when the 170 year old family farm was expropriated by Ontario Hydro in 1954 to build the Moses-Saunders Power Dam. The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday at 13 Murray St. K1N 9M5

Just Announced / Now Booking

  • Broadway Across Canada announced today that tickets for MJ: The Musical go on sale next Monday, August 19. The show, will run December 31 2024 to January 5 2025 at the National Arts Centre, is centered around the development of Michael Jackson’s 1992 Dangerous World Tour.

  • Book yourself a new experience in September. The Wine Grape Harvesting Day-Trip from Aventure Outauais will introduce you to grape harvesting but you’ll also get to sample wine and enjoy a fabulous lunch right there at the winery.

DEAL OF THE DAY

Get four 250g bags of Peaks collection coffee when you purchase three, from Lulo. Here’s how the roasters describe this limited time series of eight coffees: “Currently, we’re jam-packed with bangers in the Peak section. Eight (!) offerings filled with fruity and floral freshness. Juicebox level coffees, each containing an entire universe of flavour and aroma.”

BUT, ONE MORE THING ...

Journalist David Moscrop has released the agenda for his – presumably fictional – run for mayor of Ottawa. It’s good because there is something for everyone to like but also be mad at:

RAPID RESPONSE QUALITY CONTROL
