The Ottawan

HELLO OTTAWA

It’s Friday, July 15, 2022 and we hope that we get our $186 Climate Change Rebate from the Federal Government into our bank accounts today. Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba don't believe in climate change so the Fedeal Government rebates the carbon tax. The other provinces do it themselves..

▪️Celebrate Moo Shu ice cream's 6th birthday all weekend by "catifying" your ice cream. The ice cream wizards will add a cute cat face, whiskers, and ears with a $1 donation, which will be spread amongst the Assembly of Seven Generations (A7G)and Minwaashin Lodge

Quote: 'That’s about a year and a half away, and that’s what we think is going to be our cutoff date’ – Louise Hine-Schmidt, deputy chief of training and safety for Ottawa Fire Services. The Service wants a new training building because the City approved a new eight storey condo next door, whose tenants will be affected by smoke and heat from training. Really, this is what they are saying – a City department has to move because the City approved an unsuitable building next door.  [Ottawa Citizen]

Sports: CEBL:  Ottawa BlackJacks 90 – Saskatchewan Rattlers 92, last night Frontier League Ottawa Titans 10 – Trois-Rivières Aigles 12, last night

WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

▪️The Gatineau Passport Office is triaging requests, in a new system. The Gatineau Service Canada office staff are checking airline tickets or hotel reservations and dividing applicants into travel within 48 hours, within three days, people who previously applied, and pickups. Applicants will get a ticket for the date and time they should return. [CTV]

▪️Sainte-Thérèse-de-la-Gatineau has launched a project to study Eurasian water-milfoil - an aquatic plant - in an effort to protect future tourism. The tiny town – population 520 – has partnered with Quebéc in investigating ways to prevent milfoil’s spread, including covering lakes in burlap. Milfoil rapidly spreads from lake to lake to river by attaching itself to recreational boats and spreading just under the water surface. [CBC]
