GOOD WEDNESDAY MORNING, OTTAWA

What's the buzz? Tell me what's happening?

It’s International Bee Day. How are you celebrating? How about buying some local raw honey online from Geesbees. Use promo code worldbeeday to save 20% today. [Gees Bees]

If you’re a budding apiarist, you’ll do worse than grabbing a strong coffee and reading the Ontario Government’s Regulations of the Beekeeping Industry. [Bee Informed]

The next step is to check out the Ontario Beekeepers’ Association for resources. [Bee Correct]

Finally, if you’re not a beekeeper but you’re lucky enough to have a garden, don’t yank out the dandelions; bees love ‘em.

Enough of your beeswax. Anything else?

It’s our Wednesday roundup of Ottawa dining out experiences for Canada Takeout Wednesday.

Any new restos?

City Goose is a new restaurant located in the site of the old Berryman Pub on Bank Street. It was scheduled to open just as the pandemic closed everyone's doors.

So, they have a limited but delicious menu: pizza, steak sandwich, smashed chickpea sandwich, and homemade pop tarts.

Any old restos?

the ottawan reported yesterday the sad news that Stoneface Dolly’s is closing after 20 years. As a consolation, they’ve posted the recipe for their popular brunch item Lemon Ricotta pancakes on Instagram. Please pass the lemon curd.

Does the ottawan-reading public have any suggestions?

Reader Sarah has this to say: “My absolute Ottawa favourite is New King Shawarma Plus at 205 Bank St. The food and service are both consistently excellent and I used to go weekly before we transitioned to work from home.

As someone who's a GTA transplant (and as someone has dietary restrictions), this is one of the spots that makes Ottawa feel like home. The staff are never hesitant to make something work for you and are always so friendly, and they've always relied on foot traffic (no delivery until recently) so I want to highlight them!

Personal recommendations: their house made hot sauce on anything.

[New King Shawarma] (Thanks, Sarah!)

I don't like these. Where can I get something else?

Your first search should be at Love Local Delivery, the Ottawa-born delivery service.

You can also find local restaurants at Local Eats Ottawa, Apartment 613, Together Apart and SavourOttawa.ca. These will put you in touch with restaurants that will give you curbside pickup.

We'll see you tomorrow — Martha and Darren
