STATS

Number

Ottawan of the Day

  • Chris Tymofichuk
  • – The Canadian Football League fan is on the final stretch of his Guiness World Record attempt to visit all nine CFL stadiums in the shortest amount of time. There actually is a previous record, 364 hours. After TD Place, Tymofichuk will end his quest at BMO Field in Toronto, hopefully totalling 362.5 hours. The rules state that Tymofichuk must stay until the end of the game at each stadium. (Josh Pringle at CTV) (Fundraiser for CFL Fans Fight Cancer)

WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

🦠 Wastewater Testing

  •  The University of Ottawa will continue to test wastewater for viruses despite having the programme’s funding cut by the Province. The University says that it has secured funding for the next few months but didn’t say from where. Besides tracking COVID-19 levels, wastewater testing also tests for respiratory syncytial virus. (Ted Raymond at CTV) (COVID-19 wastewater dashboard)

🔬 National Research Council of Canada

  •  The National Research Council of Canada is building a $1 billion facility on Montréal RoadAround 450 employees of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission and Natural Resources Canada will ‘support scientific advancements for sustainable land and resource development, as well as a low-carbon economy’. (Josh Pringle at CTV)

🏘️ The Seven Most Expensive Homes for Sale this Summer

  •  CTV knows what gets clicks, and subsquently we figured out what people click on, so don’t feel guilty. The most expensive is in Crystal Bay for $7 million. Pictures! (Josh Pringle at CTV)

🌬️ Thurso Pulp Mill

  •  Québec has leased the closed Thurso pulp mill to a company making an anthracite substitute. Anthracite is the coal of choice for iron smelting, resulting in a need for a substitute that has lower emissions. Three hundred workers lost their jobs when the mill closed in 2019. (Readers, please give Darren a pat on the back for refraining from typing Truro instead of Thurso) (Josh Pringle at CTV)

🛒 Weekly Grocery Flyer Review

  •  Every week, Donovan Burey reviews all the grocery store flyers and posts the deals on Ottawa Reddit. Burey was on holidays last week, but he’s back now with and says there are great deals across the city in lettuce, cauliflower, blueberries, Ontario stone fruit, and watermelon. (/Ottawa)

BUT, ONE MORE THING ...

the ottawan is certainly a fan of charticals and listicals, so we approve of this attempt by the City to explain the difference between a weather watch and a weather warning using language everyone in Ottawa can understand: shawarmas.

The graphic comes from the City of Ottawa’s Facebook page.
