News, restaurants, events – discover what's happening in your city every weekday morning

Every Wednesday, the ottawan recognises Canada Take Out Day with a round-up of local favourites.

This week we're focussing on supporting Black-owned restaurants and cafes. All of them do takeaway and most do delivery in their local area.

Says a Yelp review: “Oy! Who knew the best Montreal bagels are from the east suburbs of Ottawa?”

Amazingly detailed cake creations — but order well in advance

261 Centrepointe Drive K2G 5S6

Carribean classics done Jamaican style. The curried goat is the one that brings people to Lil' Negrill's hidden location.

205 Dalhousie St ON K1N 7C9

In these Wintery June days, wood charcoal-grilled chicken is exactly what is needed

853 Boyd Avenue K2A 2C9

Run2Patty is famous for–unsurprisingly–their Jamaican patties. But the real treat is the Chicken and Red Velvet waffle.

65 Denzil Doyle Ct Kanata, K2M 2G8

As the only great coffee shop in Kanata, if you work in Kanata you probably already know about the Thirsty Maiden. Take away only at the moment.

375 McArthur Ave.Vanier K1L 6N5

YKO brings their wood charcoal flavours from Cote d'Ivoire, not just the eponymous chicken but goat and  lamb. Fully bilingual service.

You can also find local restaurants at Local Eats Ottawa, Apartment 613, Together Apart and These will put you in touch with restaurants that will give you curbside pickup.

We'll see you tomorrow — Martha and Darren
