🚨 Suspended Police Officers

•  A new CBC investigation called ‘Paid to stay home’ shows that suspended Ontario police officers have cost taxpayers $134 million over the past ten years. The Ottawa Police Service was number four in the suspended officers leaderboard with 35 out of 1,494 officers bunked off.
  
  All of those officers kept their full paycheque. New legislation was brought in on April 1st but previously the law did not allow paycheques to be suspended. (Julie Ireton and Valerie Ouellet at CBC)

🛫 Ottawa International Airport

•  WestJet will increase the number of flights between Ottawa and Winnipeg to daily, up from three times per week. The new service begins June 3. (Yahoo Finance)

🛠️ Lee Valley Tools

•  Lee Valley Tools has built a completely automated fulfillment centre in West Carleton. The new system reduces 36,000 feet of space to 6,000 and is inside its existing Carp warehouse. Lee Valley says the freed-up space will be used for manufacturing. (Monte Stewart in Connect Canada CRE)

🏘️ Development

•  A developer has applied to build 1,908 residential units on farmland in Kanata. Brigil is proposing eight low-rise apartment buildings, four mid-rise buildings of six storeys, two 15-storey towers, 32 townhouses, and 19 single-detached dwellings on March Road. Included are three parks and space for a future French-language school. There would be ground-floor commercial space in the highrise and mid-rise buildings. OC Transpo does not currently run any buses in the area. (David Sali in the Ottawa Business Journal)
•  The City’s Built Heritage Committee today voted to support designating seven properties in Britannia Village as heritage. Six are vernacular cottage style homes connected to the area‘s history as a summer resort. The seventh is the Britannia Yacht Club house. City Council will decide April 17. (City of Ottawa)

🇫🇷 Dignitaries

•  The prime minister of France, Gabriel Attal, will be dropping in to Ottawa tomorrow before visting Québec City and Montréal. (Canadian Press)

🌑 The Eclipse

•  The Ottawa Citizen has a bunch of photos of eclipse day. (Peter Hum in the Ottawa Citizen)
•  Unless you want to hold onto your eclipse glasses until 2045, Barrhaven West ward councillor David Hill is collecting them at his office at 100 Malvern Dr. He’ll send them to Eclipse Glasses USA, which will in turn donate them to children in Latin America for their October event. (Twitter)

BUT, ONE MORE THING ...

Ken Warren in the Ottawa Citizen has taken one for the team and has smelt the Parliament and Rideau O Train stations in an effort to discover what dealt it.

Warren actually visited all 13 stations and found nothing amiss at most of them.

However, at Parliament station, he found an ‘assault on the snout’ and at Rideau station, the smell was like ‘being in a basement that has flooded’.
