•  The City wants to know how you would like the City’s money to be spent. First, the City has released a four minute animated YouTube video on how the budget process works. Second, there will be in-person and virtual consulations starting in September. 💥 Capital Pride

• The Jewish Federation of Ottawa and B’nai Brith Canada have condemned Capital Pride for releasing a statement in ‘solidarity with Palestine’. Capital Pride accuses Israel of ‘pinkwashing’ the war in Gaza when it highlights the freedom of gays and lesbians in Israel versus the ban on homosexuality in Palestine. Pride Parades in Toronto and Vancouver were both cancelled early by supporters of the Palestinan side of the war blocking the road. Capital Pride starts August 17 with the parade on August 25. ⚕️ Dr Brian Nadler 

•  Now that the publication ban has lifted, documents from the murder trial of Dr Brian Nadler detail how he was acquitted. The documents show that there was disagreement amongst professionals on whether the patients that Nadler was accused of murdering at Hawkesbury and District General Hospital had COVID-19 or not, and disagreements over his pharmaceutical choices. By trial date, the Crown did not believe that it could get a conviction, however it has appealed for a new trial based on excluded evidence. (Nicole Williams at CBC)

• Convoy coörganizer Pat King has been banned from an Alberta music festival that he had been promoting. The Rock the Track music festival banned King after it became aware that he had been accepted as a volunteer. The organizer believes that King has a friend involved with the show and was using it for self promotion. For those heading to Alberta, Rock the Track runs from today to Saturday and features the Headstones, Nazareth, Bif Naked, Northern Pikes, Lee Aaron, Honeymoon Suite, Harlequin, and the Headpins. • Tickets went on sale this morning for Ottawa Blues for Youth, the awesome fundraising weekend in October for the youth mental health programme Youth Nominated Support Team (YNST).
  
  On the evening of Saturday October 19 Juno Award winner Angelic Francis will bring her band to Irene’s Pub, where she’ll be supported by Ottawa’s own Murray Kinsley & Wicked Grin. Tickets are just $40.
  
  Then, at the Sunday October 20 the After Party from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm, KJ and the Strayways will perform alongside local teen performers. Tickets for the all ages After Party are $35. If you can’t attend the event, the YNST will gladly accept donations.

BUT, ONE MORE THING ...

Dave Allston at the Kitchissippi Museum has the tale of industrial chemist George H Harrison, orginally of Moose Jaw, who became famous in 1921 for a ‘process by which a ton of straw could be burned to extract $250 worth of useful products from the smoke, including paint, germicides and even gas that could power automobiles and illuminate buildings’. Popular Science and Farm and Fireside wrote about it.

After attempts to monetize his idea in St Paul, Minnesota and Merrill, Wisconsin, Harrison moved to Hintonburg where he formed the the Harrison Paint and Chemical Company Ltd in 1934 – and then promptly vanished, his technique unused. The factory still exists at 7 Hamilton Ave North, home of Full Cycle and the Mino'Weesini Grocery Programme of Parkdale Food Centre.
