The City is asking for your opinion on a new idling bylaw.

No, not idle like Darren, but vehicles. The current law bans idling more than three minutes per hour when the temperature is between 5° and 27°. (The idea being, it's so cold you need the heat on or so hot, you need the air conditioner. There is no limit outside those temperatures.)

The City wants to bring it down to one minute per hour and has set up a survey for your opinion.

🛻 Convoy News

•  The Federal Court of Canada has ruled that invoking the Emergency Act over the Convoy infringed on protesters' Charter rights’. The lawsuit was brought against the Federal Government by the Canadian Civil Liberties Association, the Canadian Constitution Foundation, and two people whose bank accounts were frozen. The judge ruled that the situation did not meet the definition of a threat to the security of Canada by the Canadian Security Intelligence Service and that the government infringed upon the protestors' freedom of expression. The Federal Government has said that it will appeal. (Catharine Tunney at CBC)

🚨 Ottawa Police Service

• Salim Fakirani is the new Ottawa Police Services Board chair. Fakirani, who is a provincial appointee to the Board, had already been the acting chair after the resignation of Dr Gail Beck. (Ted Raymond at CTV)

•  Ottawa Chamberfest and the uOttawa School of Music present Œuvres novelles 2024: Works by Emerging Composers. New String Quartets by six young composers will be performed by four musicians, and the concert is free (although registration is a must).

•  Gloria, the B-movie that won Venice Film Festival’s Golden Lion as well as an Academy Award Nomination for star Gena Rowlands, plays the Mayfair Theatre as part of the John Cassavetes Film Fest.

•  Join the Ottawa chapter of Women and Climate for dinner and to chat with others interested in climate issues. There is no cost to attend but you’ll pay for your own food and drinks. Pure Kitchen Elgin 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm.
