    WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

💰 The City’s public works and infrastructure committee has voted to walk back some of the proposed new parking meter charges. Instead of extending parking charges to 9:30 pm from 5:00 pm, the committee voted to split the difference at 7:30 pm. Areas that have Saturday parking charges would have extended that to Sunday but that idea has been dropped. A final decision will be made at an upcoming City Council meeting. – Arthur White-Crummey at CBC

↪ If you need to get or renew a parking permit, the City is launching a new online system that will actually remember your previous information. The new system begins June 4 at MyServiceOttawa.

🛶 An Ottawa Valley man has been charged for canoeing while impaired on Golden Lake. Last week, the Ontario Provincial Police rescued the man whose canoe had capsized in the lake near Eganville and took him to hospital. After a blood test, the man was charged with operating a watercraft while impaired, which also results in a driver’s licence suspension for 90 days. – Natasha O’Neill at CityNews

💼 The Canada Revenue Agency will be laying off 280 Federal public employees, most of them in the Capital region. The Agency says that it would ‘initiating voluntary-departure programs’. – Ottawa Citizen

🛏️ Montréal ‘sofa-in-a-box’ retailer Cozey is opening a pop-up shop in June. The eight month residency will launch at 137 Rideau St June 12. While Cozey started as an online-only company, it now has a store front in Toronto. – Ted Raymond at CTV

🚧 There will be multiple street closures over the next few days.

Here are all the downtown streets closed for the Tamarack Race Weekend.

    DAILY POLL

    The Poll

    44% Yes, pretty much always

    5% No, never never never

32% Yes, in limited cases, where the increased pedestrian traffic clearly outweighs the inconvenience of driving where I want

19% No, except for the odd street festival and the like
