    📋 Agenda

    WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

    🤔 Planning Department

    •  Three City Hall staff members are being paid by the Tewin developer, Taggart. These three staff members — a senior project manager for infrastructure, a senior manager for transportation, and a planner — will be working on the Taggart’s Tewin project file and no other city files. This information came to light when Capital ward councillor Shawn Menard and Knoxdale-Merivale ward councillor Sean Devine asked if this was true at yesterday’s joint planning and housing and environment and climate change committee meeting. (Ottawa Bulldog)

➕ Related Developer Katasa Group says it will be donating $300,000 to local charities. The group reneged on a $300,000 donation to the City last January after it was decided that the donation could not be directed specificaly to traffic calming near its planned development but would be spread across the City.

    ⚕️ Gatineau Hospital

    •  The Federal government is tranferring the Asticou Centre to Québec for use as a new Gatineau hospital. Around 17 hectares of the former language training facility will be given over to the hospital, around 9 hectares will be transferred to the National Capital Commission for greenspace. While the site is closer to downtown than the previous option, it is currently underserved by public transit. (CBC)

    💸 Lansdowne 2.0

    •  The City may collect far less money than estimated from Lansdowne 2.0, says Auditor General. Nathalie Gougeon also says that City staff based costs on the low end of expectations, resulting in an underestimation of $74 million in construction costs. Her report says that the City will likely have to take on more debt if indeed the construction costs are higher. (Arthur White-Crummey at CBC)

    🛶 Camp Misquah

    •  Camp Misquah was ‘surged’ with offers to help when it warned it may have to cancel its summer camp. The camp for people with intellectual delays will operate at 80 per cent capacity, after it was able to hire the medical and counsellor staff it was lacking. (Blair Crawford in the Ottawa Citizen

    🔥 Open Air Fires

    •  The open air fire ban has been lifted. You must still get a permit, however.  (Josh Pringle at CTV)

    BUT, ONE MORE THING ...

You may recall there was an event last Autumn called ‘Save the Children Convoy’, in which a hundred or so trucks came together on a farm near Casselman. The farmer said the Convoy was there to help him fix his barn in exchange for lodging. Instead, they have left the farmer with thousands of dollars in unpaid Hydro bills, broken equipment, and damaged trees.
