Events

▪️Over 40 local artists are taking part in the West Carleton Art Society’s Art for All show, running until November 28th at Myers Cadillac. The dealership has offered a spacious showroom for the artworks, which include paintings in acrylic and oil, pastel images, mixed media, photography, wood and glass. 10% of proceeds will be donated to Art for Aid, the non-profit community organization that provides art education and materials to First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities. Visit Monday to Thursday from 10:00 to 7:00pm. and Friday to Sunday from 10:00am to 5:00pm. 1200 Baseline Road, Ottawa. 

▪️Tickets are now on sale for the 2021 Enchanted Holiday Drive in Stittsville, and according to organizers they’re going fast. Running from December 1st to 23rd the experience features sets with lights, effects, and actors, plus Santa’s mailbox for your children’s letters. 6336 Fallowfield Road.

COVID-19 NEWS

⭕ Ottawa Public Health says that it could start immunizing children five to 11 years of age against COVID-19 beginning Friday. Appointments will be taken on the vaccination portal – remember that? – starting tomorrow at 8:00 am. [CBC] [Provincial Portal

⭕ The COVID-19 test requirement for Canadians and permanent residents crossing the US border will end November 30 for trips of 72 hours or less. Non-Canadians will still require the test. Also announced, all professional athletes crossing the border will need to be vaccinated. [Globe & Mail]

WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

▪️Fifty passengers on the O-Train were trapped in the tunnel between Rideau and uOttawa stations last week. The passengers waited fifty-five minutes until maintenance staff could release the brakes. Everyone disembarked at uOttawa station.  [CBC]

▪️Daycare workers in Quebec may go on strike today. Parents in Gatineau benefit from $11 per day daycare; on the Ottawa side, parents wait for the Province to make a deal for $10 per day daycare with the Federal government. Quebec daycare workers have not had a contract for 18 months. [CBC]

▪️The Ottawa Police budget foregoes hiring 30 new officers but the Service will be hiring 28 that have ‘already been approved‘. The positions were approved in 2020 with funding to come for the current 2021 budget but were never hired. The Police say they have shortages in traffic, guns and gangs, and the sexual assault, child abuse and partner assault sections [CTV]
