HELLO OTTAWA

In Constance Bay, the water level is 59.9 metres above sea level. The 2017 peak was 60.44 m and a 2019 peak of 60.75 m. The three-day forecast is for the Ottawa River to peak at 60.30 m.

Residents whose septic systems are no longer usable can request a porta potty from the City by calling 311.

    🪧 Federal Civil Servants strike

    •  Canada Revenue Agency employees have made a tentative agreement and ended their strike. The deal with the 35,000 member Union of Taxation Employees is similar to the agreement with other Public Service Alliance of Canada members earlier this week:

      • Compounded wage increase of 12.6 per cent over four years

      • One time payment of $2,500, which should cover the loss of pay for striking
    •  Workers should be able to start as early as 6 a.m. if it's reasonable for their job
    •  Workers move up to four weeks vacation after seven years of service instead of eight
    •  Indigenous employees get paid leave for traditional practices.

      • Remote working is not included in the agreement but both sides agree to continue talking about it.

       Related The 36,000 member Canada Employment Immigration Union is campaigning for its members to reject the agreement with the Treasury Board earlier this week. The Union says its members understood it was to be a three-year agreement but the final version is for four years.

    •  The Jane’s Walk festival of neighbourhood walking tours, which happens this weekend in multiple areas of Ottawa, launches on Friday May 5 with a Festival Preview & Picnic under the Booth Street Bridge at Lebreton Flats. 6:00pm to 8:00pm. This year’s theme is Building Bridges.
    •  The Warehouse Art Party by Studio Space Ottawa is a fundraiser by artists to build more studios for artis. This won’t just be a stand-around-with-a-drink-in-your-hand affair. You’ll be invited to experience live model drawing, pottery wheel throwing, printmaking and lots of other creative pursuits. You can also purchase raffle tickets and original artworks priced at $100 or $250. Of course, there will also be the aforementioned drinks, from a cash bar. 6:00pm to 10:00pm at Studio Space Ottawa, 2477 Kaladar Avenue, second floor. $25

    •  Freshen up your mother figure’s garden with a flower basket from the Greenhouse at Jardin Rochon Garden, which is reopening for 2023 at 8:30am. If you can’t make it to the Greenhouse (1101 York’s Corners Rd), Rochon will also be selling flowers and veg at Parkdale Market (366 Parkdale Ave) every week starting this Saturday.
    •  Arlington Art Market’s first event of the year is this Saturday May 6 at Arlington 5 Coffeehouse (the market returns July 15 and Oct 7). More than 100 artists, makers, food and vintage vendors will be at Arlington 5 Coffeehouse from 10:00am to 3:00pm. Free Entry. Arlington between Bank and Kent St.
    •  Carp farmers market opens for the 2023 season on Saturday.
    •  Jane’s Walk Festival route in Manotick will feature Dickinson Square.
