STATS

Number

  • 300 to 400
  • – The number of people in Ottawa who die each year due to air pollution, according to a Health Canada report. The article’s author says that Ottawa Public Health does not have the equipment to measure air quality citywide, and the province has only one air monitoring station, located on Wurtemburg Street. (Jake Cole in the Ottawa Citizen(The Report)

Ottawans of the Day

  • Milo Cheung, Isaac Bogle, Declan Faloon, Sophia Tang, Terrence Tang, and Madison Zwetko
  • – The six St Mark High School students took silver at the grade 7/8 division of the Reach for the Top finals. (Mannotick Messenger)

Quote

  • Feckless

  • – Nepean resident Kevin Brown’s response to the help he received from Member of Provincial Parliament Lisa MacLeod with his driver’s license issue.
  • For over thirty years, Brown has had problems renewing his driver’s license or has been stopped by the police as someone who shares his name has had their own license suspended.

Last month, the Ministry of Transporation wrote Brown a letter saying it noticed that there were two driving records with the name Kevin Brown, so it was merging them together, resulting in the immediate suspension of this Brown’s license.
  • Brown’s license is still suspended. (Guy Quenneville at CBC

WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

🚊 O Train

  • The Trillium Line will not be open before school returns warns OC Transpo. OC Transpo general manager Renee Amilcar says that a 21-day trial running period will be the final step before opening to the public, and she does not know when that will happen. The line was originally projected to open in August 2022. (Josh Pringle at CTV)

Related Richmond Road and Byron Avenue between McEwen and Cleary avenues will close for three years Saturday for O Train construction. When it reopens, Richmond Road will have pedestrian and cycling pathways as well as updated water and sewers.

♨️ Boil Water Advisory in Aylmer

  • Aylmer residents are advised to boil their water. The reason for the advisory by the City of Gatineau was not provided. Water should be boiled for one minute, and that includes water for pets. (Toula Mazloum at CTV)

🚨 Ottawa Police Service

  • PSA to criminals: the Ottawa Police Service has picked eight corners where they are watching for you. Using a computer and statistics and a map to work it out, the Service will increase patrols in the following spots:

    1. Rideau Street near Sussex Drive/Colonel By Drive

    2. Rideau Street near Dalhousie Street

    3. William Street and ByWard Market Square between George Street and York Street

    4. Dalhousie Street between Rideau Street and George Street

    5. Daly Avenue between Cumberland Street and King Edward Avenue

    6. Clarence Street between Sussex Drive and Parent Avenue

    7. King Edward Avenue between Besserer Street and Rideau Street

    8. Rideau Street and Besserer Street between King Edward Avenue and Nelson Street

If you are a criminal and reading this, please do not move a few blocks away. (Ted Raymond at CTV)

Related More than double the number of Ottawa Police cars were caught by speed cameras in the first three months of this year over last year, 75 compared to 32. As police cars are owned by the City, no police officer has ever had to pay a ticket.

💥 Buvette Daphnée

  • Buvette Daphnée will reopen for dining at the end of the month. The restaurant, which has been lauded for its retro-Québec interior design, has been closed since May after a staff walkout over chef Dominique Dufour’s management. Dufour has now said that she is stepping back from the resto for health reasons as she is six months pregnant. (Peter Hum in the Ottawa Citizen) (Buvette Daphnée)

Related The new Chick-fil-A opened today at Tanger Outlets. Martha and Darren tried their first Chick-fil-A in Syracuse a few weeks back and the verdict was ‘pretty good’. Note the chicken outlet is not open on Sundays.
