#WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

▪️ Heron Gate developer has still not agreed to their ‘social contract’ as their planning approval date approaches. The developers want to construct 50 buildings and add 6,400 residents over an existing development which houses hundreds of low-rent apartments. A proposal was made that the developer would not evict anyone who did not have a new apartment made available at the same rent, and that 20 per cent of the new development would be for social housing – yet the agreement is still unsigned. The City's planning committee will vote on approving the development June 24. [Ottawa Citizen]

▪️ The first match of Atlético Ottawa will be against FC Edmonton on June 26 – in Winnipeg. All 32 matches of all teams in the Canadian Premier League will be played in Winnipeg for the first month to keep COVID-19 testing in hand. After the first month, away matches will be considered. [CBC]

▪️ The City is looking at buying 450 electric buses by 2027. The total fleet today is 1,000 buses, including four electric ones. The plan would involve a $400 million loan from the Canadian Infrastructure Bank, which would include the costs of Hydro Ottawa creating charging stations. If diesel buses were swapped out for electric buses, it would be the largest conversion in Canada, says the Bank.  [CBC]

▪️ Artist Street Art Miniature has been creating tiny pieces of art that look like food and distributing them around the city. The artist then posts on Instagram and hopes people will figure out where to look. [The Charlatan] [Instagram

▪️ The winning bid to be the first one to zipline across the Ottawa River is $27,000. The money will go to charity. [CFRA]
