🚊 NO Train: Day 0️⃣ again

Here are today’s updates on the closure of the Confederation Line.

  •  Riders can travel from Blair Station to downtown five minutes faster by taking the R1 shuttle rather than the O Train, says Director of Transit Operations and Rail Delivery Troy Charter. This is not intentional. (Ted Raymond at CTV)
  •  An economics student argues that making OC Transpo free would change the mindset of bureaucrats from treating riders as customers to costs. (Lucy Gay in the Ottawa Citizen).

Reader Jillian writes us asking, ‘Is the ottawan run by Leafs fans? Didn't love seeing this. I'm not a fan of seeing jabs at the local team in my local newsletter. Left a bad feeling after reading today.’

We’re sorry to read this Jillian, who was referring to a joke by us yesterday that the closest the Sens will get to the Stanley Cup is to see it this Friday at the W. Erskine Johnston Arena.

 the ottawan certainly is no fan of the Leafs, and we applaud everyone who supports the Senators, our local team. We merely think, in Stanley Cup terms, the only reasonable attitude for Sens fans to hold is to  prepare for a lifetime of heartbreak. But that is no reason not to keep hoping.

    🛻 Convoy News

    •  The Federal Government will review what it learned from the Emergencies Act inquiry in ‘the coming days’. Fifty six recommendations were released by Commissioner Paul Rouleau earlier this year. (Catherine Tunney at CBC)

    💰 Business Improvement Areas

    •  It’s goodbye Bank Street, hello Centretown for the city’s largest business improvement area association. The newly renamed Centretown BIA has also expanded from Bank Street to represent businesses on Somerset, Gladstone, Flora, Laurier, Slater, Albert, Arlington, Catherine, Kent, and O’Connor as well.     🏊‍♀️ Recreation Registration

    •  The City’s online recreation programme registration system crashed again yesterday. This new system has only been in place for one year, when it replaced the old system which could only handle 450 users simultaenously before crashing. In standard City style, the general manager of recreation, cultural and facility services blamed someone else. (Charles Brockman at CBC)

    •  In honour of Black Cat Appreciation Day, the ottawan’s resident felines Bodie and Wiggy will take over our Instagram account. Please note, however, that neither cat is 100% black. In fact, Bodie is actually a rich dark brown colour*, and Wigmore possesses a fine Tuxedo pattern. *In our defence, we adopted the cats on a dark, late February afternoon in the East end of London, and they were living in a rooftop shelter in, and in that dim light Bodie appeared black.

    •  Ottawa Music Industry Coalition, Music.Art.Ppl., and In the Glebe BIA present the Lansdowne Park Summer Showcase featuring DJ Furrit, DJ Pithra, Kina Ink, and Ottawa Shufflers Community. 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
    •  A Company of Fools' production of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet plays parks and venues around Ottawa this summer. Tonight’s venue is at Weston Park in Alta Vista. 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM.

    The community radio station in Killaloe is in danger of folding after 25 years. Killaloe, in Renfrew County, is a little outside of our baliwick, but we’re always suckers for tiny media fighting the fight.

    CHCR 102.9 FM is suffering from a lack of volunteers, needing new members, DJs, show hosts, and board members. For those looking for a great Saturday road trip, the station will be at Station Park on Saturday, selling albums and on Sunday at the Lion’s Hall with a pankcake breakast. (Eganville Leader) (CHCR)
