GOOD WEDNESDAY MORNING, OTTAWA

What's going on

Are you hungry? Because it's Canada Takeout Wednesday again.

I'm tired of supporting multinational fast food outlets. What else can I do?

Think outside the big delivery guys and support Love Local Delivery. This born-in-the-pandemic service charges participating restaurants $2 per order instead of the common 25-30 per cent demanded by the name brand delivery services. The customer pays a $5 delivery fee.

Contact each of the restaurants separately to order and arrange pickup or delivery.

Their website lists all participating restaurants by neighbourhood, but we’ve selected a few here:

Hintonburg

? Heartbreakers Pizza has just opened. These guys feature proper New York style pizza, by the slice and by the gigantic pie [Heartbreakers]

Vanier

? Baccanalle on Montreal Road has a range of dinners for one or three or more. Dive into a whole roasted Jerk Chicken, patties, plantain chips, chocolate banana cupcakes, and a host of other flavour-packed Caribbean flavours. [Baccanalle]

Old Ottawa East

? Irene’s Restaurant Pub offers a range of frozen ready meals with comforting spice. A cozy dinner for two might include the Butter Chicken Curry Dinner (mmm tandoori) or the Thai-inspired Vegetarian Chickpea Curry Dinner, both of which come with Basmati and Naan. [Irene's]

You can also find local restaurants at Local Eats Ottawa, Apartment 613, Together Apart and SavourOttawa.ca. These will put you in touch with restaurants that will give you curbside pickup.

We'll see you tomorrow — Martha and Darren
