HELLO OTTAWA

If you’ve ever wanted to write about the Ottawa and Gatineau scene, cover the music and art and theatre events shown here, interview the up-and-coming and the already here’s, or just take pictures of them – well, the ottawan can’t help you.

But Apartment 613 can. The 10 year old1, award winning2, non-profit3 culture site is welcoming new faces at their Apt613 contributor open house this evening 5:30 pm – 8:30pm at Spruce Creative (145 Spruce St., Second Floor).

Seltzer and snacks are promised for those who need to be bribed. Former contributors who have drifted away, possibly from lack of seltzer and snacks, are welcome to drop by.

– Martha and Darren

As compared to the ottawan: We’re three years old. Not even close. True, but not intentionally.

    WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

    🦆 Swimming

    🚑 Carp Fair

    🛻 Convoy on Trial

Convoy co-organizers Chris Barber and Tamara Lich are currently on trial for their parts in the Convoy siege. We’ll mention when something interesting happens.

    •  Serge Arpin, the chief of staff to Ottawa’s former mayor, was on the stand. He testified how City Council changed a bylaw that permitted vehicles to idle in cold weather from 5° to -15° on Feb 9 in hopes of making the demonstration come to an end. He also testified that the City made an application for an injuction without telling the Convoy’s lawyers.

The trial is now on break until after Thanksgiving. The lawyer for the defence does not want to set a new date until the Crown has an accurate idea of how long the trial will take. (Laura Osman in the Canadian Press)
    •  The Ottawa Citizen is liveblogging the trial.
