HELLO OTTAWA |
Please read: We’re changing our email platform next Monday, and this may place your daily issue of THE OTTAWAN into your spam or promotions folder. |
Why? Because we’re moving back to a Canadian email platform, Montréal’s Cyberimpact, instead of the American-based one we’ve been using for the last six months. |
We’ll run this note all week as a reminder. Most people won’t see a difference but the email world is a capricious one and we never know who will get the spam treatment. |

Mailbag Jake Davies of West Carleton Online wrote to tell us that the City’s newest island is not in the Ottawa River, as we wrote yesterday, but in the Mississippi River, a tributary of the Ottawa. We’re pleased to have a reason to use the mi-ss-iss-ipp-i chant that has been burnt into our brains since childhood. |

WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT |
🚊 Ontario Election |
▪️The O Train would be handed over to Metrolinx, say Progressive Conservative leader Doug Ford and Liberal leader Bonnie Crombie. Metrolinx is the provincial crown corporation that runs the GO Trains around the greater Toronto and Hamilton areas and is recognized for its competence. Transferring the system to Metrolinx would free Ottawa of operating expenses, its debt, and the various lawsuits but also allow it to be managed effectively. | | Kate Porter and Campbell MacDiarmid at CBC |

|
👾 Game Stores |
▪️Thieves are hitting local games stores – for things like Pokemon cards. Two locations of GameZetera in Ottawa were burgled last month; last Canada Day Daniereon in Orléans had $10,000 worth of items stolen. Store owner Danielle Lavigne says Pokemon cards are popular because their value has soared, they are untraceable, and can be easily sold on Facebook Marketplace. | | CBC |
