    WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

    ☢️ Best Theratronics

    •  After ten months, the workers at nuclear facility Best Theratronics in Kanata have voted to end their strike. Unifor Local 1541 says the workers have ratified a new four-year contract which includes an 11 per cent increase in pay. The strike began when workers were offered a new contract with a zero per cent increase.

      Best Theratronic makes radiation therapy units and blood irradiators.

    •  The Ottawa Police Service has issued 168 charges to tow truck companies and drivers. In a seven week blitz, the Service laid charges such as ‘failure to obtain consent to tow’ after an accident and ‘failure to display name and certificate number on tow truck’.

    🏠 House Prices

    •  The average annual income needed to buy a house in Ottawa in January was $141,420, up $790 over the month before. The average house price itself increased $4,100 from $645,800 in December to $649,900 in January.

    Curtis Wolfe  in the Lowertown Echo has the history of the namesake of Tormey Street. Colonel By’s Royal Engineer master smith William Tormey arrived in Ottawa in 1826 to build the Rideau Canal and stayed behind after it was finished.
