    WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

📣 The City has launched an opt-in emergency alert system. Similar in concept to the provincially-run emergency alert system, the Ottawa Alert may include things like:

    • Emergencies that affect a wide area or public safety
    • Serious reminders such as clearing snow away from your furnace and dryer vents
    • Essential information about emergency shelters or family reunification centres
    • Urgent alerts about dangerous situations happening right now
    • Vital information to help keep you safe during an active police investigation or a threat to public safety

The main difference is residents must sign up to Ottawa Alert. The provincial emergency system, which generally will not send reminders about clearing snow from furnances, is sent to all mobile phones and broadcasters without any opt-out.

Residents can choose to receive the alerts by smartphone app, text, email, or telephone call. –

🛰️ Slingshot Aerospace has opened its new Canadian headquarters in Ottawa. The Colorado company, which does satellite tracking, space traffic coordination, and space modeling and simulation solutions, will specialize in arctic sensors. – Satellite Evolution Group

🌊 A Hintonburg homeowner has received a $500 bill from the City for an eight year-old water bill unpaid by the previous owner. The City says that it has spent the past eight years trying to find the previous owner but considers the bill to be attached to the property not the person and is now going after the current owner. The current owner discovered with a 30 second Google search that the previous owner had died.

Despite the fact that the City says the bill belongs to the property, not the owner, staff refuse to divulge what is water usage and what are eight years of interest payments citing ‘privacy’.  – Arthur White-Crummey at CBC

    BUT, ONE MORE THING ...

Ottawa Charge will travel to Montréal for games one and two, and you can catch the action up close in Game 3 at TD Place next Tuesday May 13.
